好的球桿訂製師的要項/A good clubfitter's requirements！

我個人做球具訂製的工作超過17年了。剛開始時玩球桿，但這個坑是不歸路，進去後就越陷越深。因為會不斷去追求更多、更好和更多變化的東西。同時探究很多物理和材料的道理才能融會貫通。不然只是表面有很多球桿而已。但實際產品和技術上的差異或變化也無法完全摸透。

因為追求球桿到底可以有怎樣的變化，和變化的程度？這個目標對很多產品產生興趣，但太多產品，只能對比較喜歡的2～3個品牌下手瞭解。這也是我對一個好的技師的基本要求。因為這是球友在意和會詢問的重點。不能光簡單找廠商的資料來說明，這樣就不是有技術的技師。

1. 產品的熟悉度 - 這個部分，是要有一定的瞭解深度。不是對DM照本宣科。需要有實際的測試桿來提供體驗和說明。技師也要有實際使用的經驗分享，才能讓球友有比較清楚的瞭解。不過這塊也是台灣很多工坊比較缺乏，因為他們不願意建立測試桿，也不願意庫存，也很少去實際使用操作球桿。所以要瞭解產品這塊是有難度。

問他們，就是隨便信口開河、說是第幾代的，沒有重點。什麼產品、桿身、握把都好像懂，但只有用過少數幾款。如果沒有摸熟1、2個品牌的桿身和桿頭的經驗，就很難去討論和說明產品特性和差異。這是基本功力，如果不行就很難有下文。

2. 原理的論述能力 - 很多結果和擊球表現都和物理，材料學有直接相關。如果你要求技師要能有論述這些道理，就是比較厲害的魔王等級了。因為如果沒有相關理工科基礎和學習，是很難在這部分有完整或精要的說明。因為一個結果是環環相扣，人的分析和球具的物理變化。要能說明整個環節不是簡單的事！

I have been doing the clubfitting/clubmaking for over 17 years. it was just interested in golf clubs but That's endless for finding the right golf clubs for myself. Due to finding the various results and combination of golf clubs, I have to know clubmaking, golf swing and golf parts for getting the truth. Otherwise, it's only having a number of golf clubs without knowing the differentiations, gear profiles and reasons.

How could a golf club become with various golf club head, shaft and grips? There are so many shafts, heads, and grips in the market. It's impossible for a clubfitter or clubmaker to know all the products, with my experience, you can only pick up two or three brands products to build the vertical usages and experiences. Knowing products is basic for a clubfitter, you can not just read the product description for golfers.

1. Products - as I mention on above, the good clubfitter needs to know a number of shafts, heads and grips pros and cons based on personal usage and experience. Also collecting the golfers experiences and preference to build the product database then it's able to do the right recommendations for various golfers.

However, it's hard in Taiwan, the clubmakers/clubfitters who do not carry the demo golf clubs for golfers to try out. Without personal usage and experience, it's impossible to know how the new product, technology and materials can generate the results and performance? A good or a qualified golf clubfitter needs to have dynamic and technological fundamentals to explains the knowledge, theory and practical operation.

2. Communication - to be able to explain golfers which product, technology and material can deliver the right features and advantages for helping your golf swing? It's involved a number of technological knowledge, and scientific fundamentals. If you do not study it before or understand how it works, it's hard to tell golfers the whole story and know-how.

尤其現在很多球友要求數據化，沒有對數據運作原理產生有一定程度的瞭解，根本說明不了為什麼會得到這些數據。比如，2支桿子打出來的彈道差異，要如何去分析、說明差異和原因？loft、桿頭重心、桿身特性、桿身材質、球友打法.....這些因素對於結果的影響程度和比例多少？所以一個桿子的訂製測試過程，我的經驗至少3個鐘頭跑不掉。應該光說明、解釋和討論就要2個鐘頭了。

3. 產品來源 - 很多技師都不是品牌的經銷商。都是打游擊的做法（和其他同業調桿身）。因為做經銷商需要有庫存，要訂一定的貨。但產品的來源比較妥當也有保固，當然如果不是經銷商，產品也可以調得到。只是最好找是品牌的經銷商，後續產品有問題或損壞也有相關的保固服務。

握把的假貨比較多，桿身或桿頭，大陸的假貨真的很多。當然也會有一些流入台灣市場。如果你不是代理商或經銷商的話，沒有正品做比較是看不出來真假。一支木桿桿身或桿頭也不便宜，東西來路不明，很有可能就賠了夫人又折兵！

4. 結果論 - 這部分也是被詬病。很多球友會覺得換了桿子也沒有達到技師說的結果。但我認為訂製桿子都要設定目標，讓球友可以檢驗。不然這和買現成套桿沒有什麼兩樣。而如何去和技師設定一個可以達到的目標和結果？

技師需要分析球友本身的能力和動作狀況。動作一定會有問題，但在人的問題下，球桿有什麼可以調整、提升的空間？技師要去根據球友的問題，去設定一些可以檢驗的區塊來做檢驗。

球桿的組裝和規格設定優劣，可以從技師提供的測試桿去瞭解差別。至少球友用我的測試桿就可以感受明到！所以球桿絕對可以感受不同，就算是同樣的桿身款式也一樣可以有差別。比如距離可以提升空間？穩定性可以提升空間？彈道會比較高或低，高低的空間範圍？使用上和之前的球桿的差異性？我不去以成績的桿數可以有多少的減少，因為這個太模糊和不確定。

Nowadays there is launch monitor to help golfers and clubfitters to analyze the swing data and profile. However, to understand the data, you need to have fundamentals of swing knowledge, golf club technology and product profile. How to analyze the two different trajectories with various two golf drivers? You will need to look into the head loft, center of gravity of golf club head, shaft profile, golfers swing and so on...

It's all related with each other for the data and it's not easy to understand all the relationship and operation for each sections. With such golf clubfitting section, it takes at least 3 hours for a golf clubfitting to discuss, explain and recommend for possible combinations.

3. Product sources - A clubfitter can not carry all kinds of products and brands, but he needs to be specialized in certain brands with vertical product knowledge and experience. Some clubfitters do not stock or build the demo clubs for golfers to try out. It's absolutely no good on clubfitting without demos to practical feel and play the various combinations.

You need to find the right sources and fitter with authentic products. There are many counterfeits online and offline shops. The average golfers are unable to recognize it and the clubfitter can identify with the authentic goods to compare. That's why it's important to have authorized dealers and clubfitter/clubmaker for clubfitting. If you purchase from unknown sources such as online forums or auction sites, you have high risk to get the fake one.

4. Missions and goal - It's important to give golfers the missions of the clubfitting to accomplish. You can say all the issues are due to golfer's swing and personal/physical issues. It needs to be specific on achieving the goals such as the distance increasing, improving the on green ratio, more on the fairway and so on.

It needs to be measured the improvements on the certain fields for golfers. This way the clubfitter will work hard and do more self study with researching on new product and new technology to get more performance and improvements. The clubfitting is highly required professional knowledge, practical experience and product experiments.

加上一般球友的專注力、體能、動作熟練度都很不穩定，要以桿數為依據是不好說。可能一場可以比以前少5桿，但下一場卻爆桿。而且如果只有訂製單支球桿，對整體桿數的影響是比較有限。如果木桿來說，可以以上球道率來看。鐵桿可以以上果嶺率去觀察設定提升的空間。

還有我個人不認為launch monitor是必備的儀器。對於擊球數據這塊是否必須要去要求或著眼，我是比較保留。因為你的測試場所在室外的話，就用你的雙眼就可以看到飛行狀況和結果。除非在室內，launch monitor的數據是必須要。

但我會在這些數據表現上加一句話，你最後得到的結果和數據一定會有差異。所以不需要太刻意去以數據為依據。可以在室外就去室外打。這樣才能把掌握球桿、球桿感受和飛行表現有一個完整的結果。這些表現才能去什麼產品的特性和優缺點，球友才能有深刻的烙印。

如果有一些成功案例或球友的推薦，這是可以讓你少走彎路的機會。但還是要和技術做過一些討論，再決定是否要交給這個技師來訂製球具。當然你可以考驗技師的能力和專業，對於你的球桿和動作的看法，說得出來的就有一定的基礎，但前提是你也要知道你自己的問題和缺點。

基本上一些半桶水或練半桶都不到的技師，很難去說明一些技術和基本物理、材料和機械原理。通常就是對一個東西不斷鬼打牆的重複或強調品牌和第幾代的產品等。 如果桿子和原本訴求不一樣，也多半會推說是你的動作問題來糖塞。

而球友本身也要有基本的心裡建設。這也是我在一開始會和球友說的重點，也就是把球友本身目前的問題比如動作分析和身體特性去說明。讓他們瞭解你的根本問題，而對於球桿可以如何去改變或提升是有多少空間？

問題不會改變，只是球桿把問題的影響幅度縮得多少問題？不可以有錯誤的想法和不對的期待。除非你調整動作或提升身體能力，才能對一些揮桿問題進行有效改善。訂製球桿不是把問題變不見，而是改善問題和減少影響幅度。正確的觀念才能有好的期待！

It's very difficult to give out the commitment on improvement on score card with clubfitting and clubmaking. Particularly if you only work on single golf club such as driver, fairway or wedge, it would not be able to improve overall scores. However, we can set the right expectation such as on fairway ratio for driver, and on the green for irons.

I personally do not think launch monitor is must have equipment for clubfitting. Since if you can go out to get fit on outdoor such as driver range, it will be able to see all your shots for the trajectory, ball speed, and distance. Your eyes are the best launch monitor. Unless the clubfitting is in indoor that the launch monitor will be needed to check the performance of the shot.

Finding the good reputation and credibility for the clubfitter is able to save your time and money without trial and error. However, you have to discuss with the clubfitter first in order to know his ability, expertise and knowledge on golf club and golf swing. Once you think he is capable, you can count on his work and profession.

Golfers should know clubfitting and clubmaking would not work out all your swing issues, it's only to reduce the impact of the result. Some golfers believe if I go for clubfitting for the new clubs, I can work out my current slice or hook shots. It's not going to be gone, it's only reduce the side spin of the shots.

Spending the time with your clubfitter to discuss all your issues and try out some combinations of the golf clubs, you will get a lot of the knowledge and experience. It's always good to learn through the process and have fun for that.
