"Alright, let me give you my honest take on Callaway drivers over the past 6 years.
I used to be a total TaylorMade and Titleist fanboy — every new driver that came out? Bought it. Never sold any, just kept collecting them like trophies. But then I flipped completely and became a Callaway driver addict. So yeah, I’ve got pretty deep experience with their stuff — I’ve owned and actually played almost every model.

TaylorMade? I only buy now if I really like it. Titleist? I still get every new one because they only release every 2 years, no big deal, and they’re super traditional. Honestly, performance-wise, they’re all neck-and-neck with Callaway and TM.

It all started when I got the Mavrik Max and the Mavrik Sub Zero. After that, I was hooked — became an annual “new Callaway driver” buyer. Both were awesome, but I ended up selling the Max and keeping the Sub Zero. Why? The Max launched super high with a ton of spin, so the ball just plopped down and stopped — no roll. Sub Zero flew lower, less spin, way more roll, and the face feedback was rock solid. That’s why I never let it go.

Then came the Rogue ST Max — man, this thing is stupid easy to hit and feels incredible. I still have it to this day. It’s my emergency rescue driver. Whenever my swing’s off or I’m inconsistent, I pull this out and it just saves me. Stability is insane, forgiveness is S-tier. Almost impossible to slice or hook badly. Compared to the newer Elyte? Yeah, Elyte is a bit better at not going sideways, but Rogue ST Max is honestly one of Callaway’s most underrated drivers in the last 5–6 years. People sleep on it, but it performs way above its reputation.

Next was Paradym — loved it. Felt great, super forgiving, long… but a buddy basically stole it from me (he paid, but still). Sold it way too quick. That driver was basically the foundation for the last 3 years of Callaway tech. Felt similar to Rogue ST in structure, but the performance DNA carried straight into Ai Smoke and Elyte.

So the next year I grabbed the Ai Smoke — holy crap. Looks? Gorgeous. Colors? Fire. Performance? Unreal. That year my fairway hit percentage was over 60%, and distance-wise it smoked the Stealth from TaylorMade. Feel-wise, it doesn’t have that squeezed, compressed feel like Rogue ST — the face is more lively, almost crisp, and the ball just explodes off it.

Still have it. Easily the driver I’ve felt most confident with in the last 5 years, tied with Rogue ST. Standing on the tee, I literally don’t worry about missing the fairway. Even when I miss-hit it, it corrects — big miss becomes small miss, small miss becomes straight bomb. Only complaint? The feel isn’t quite as buttery as Rogue. But distance and accuracy? Insane.

Now this year’s Elyte — the biggest strength is forgiveness. Like… stupid forgiving. It’s seriously hard to hit it crooked. The face squares up like magic. But honestly? The looks and colorway feel kinda cheap and plasticky. Not my favorite visually, but man, it’s a good club.

Important note: all these drivers I built to the exact same specs — same length, weight within ±5g. Makes it super easy to compare apples to apples. I’ve got a bunch of high-end aftermarket shafts with Callaway adapters, so I can swap shafts in minutes and totally change the ball flight. That’s the beauty of it.

For the average golfer, Callaway drivers are just easier to hit and control than most brands, especially the last 3 years. The forgiveness is actually kind of ridiculous now — almost takes the fun out of it because you barely miss fairways anymore! (Yeah yeah, I know I’m bragging a bit, but my tee ball used to be my weapon, okay?)

A huge part of that is shaft matching. I stick to 50g or 60g shafts in stiff flex. Lighter 50g for warm-up or when I’m not feeling great, then switch to 60g once I’m loose — way more control, lower spin, better stability. But never go from 60g back to 50g mid-round — your body over-swings the lighter one and accuracy goes out the window.

If your driver is 6+ years old, just get a Callaway from the last 3 years. The tech is all connected — newer = better overall. If I had to pick one right now? Ai Smoke. Elyte has the best forgiveness of any Callaway driver in the last 6 years (maybe ever), but I just love the look and confidence I get with Ai Smoke more. Slap a high-end aftermarket shaft on it? Absolute weapon.

I’ll write about other brands when I have time, but Callaway is the one I’ve gone deepest on — I buy every new model, play it for real, and most of them are still in my collection. Other brands? I try them, but usually sell unless it’s special.

My advice: always demo, especially different shafts on the same head. Modern heads are adjustable and swappable — one head with different shafts can give you completely different ball flights and feels. That’s the real fun of club building.

I’ve already pre-ordered the 2026 Callaway Quantum Max with my fitter — can’t wait to see what they cook up next. You planning your 2026 bag upgrades yet? Do your research, go hit them in person, and you’ll know what’s right for you!"
