拼拼樂的Taylormade SIM2木桿/Piece by Piece driver head: TM SIM2!
最近要上市的TM SIM2木桿也在網路上看到了。和一些朋友,技師都稍微聊一下,對於這款新木桿的想法和使用經驗。目前來說,如果看launch monitor上的數據,倒旋會比較少。但距離上並沒有特別突出。對於一些業內的技師來說,反而不好配置桿頭重量。因為它的設計缺乏重量塊去調整桿頭重量。所以要說它可以更遠,倒是沒有Callaway或Titleist要猛!
Callaway和Taylormade兩家依舊是以複合式材質在木桿類上為主。相較於Ping、Titleist還是以純鈦合金桿頭為主,是兩種不同方向的桿頭材質基礎。但今年的TM做比較大的跨越,就是新的SIM2木桿就是幾乎是以複合式材質為主。只有桿面和前緣部位,後置鍛造鋁合金的重量匣。真的就是把這些零件給組裝起來就好。
SIM2把上蓋和底座的部位給完全碳纖維化,把重量減輕。桿頭後面就以配置匣的設計來和上下的碳纖維零件做組合。唯一的鈦合金就桿面和其周圍部位,也就是桿頭前緣部位。導致它的桿頭重心是最靠近桿面後面的設計。想也知道,之前底座還是鈦合金設計,現在全都是碳纖維,才只有12g重,這樣桿頭重心就會全部集中在桿面後面。
我個人認為,桿頭設計需要有主架構,這會是把重量集中的鋼骨。可以把複合式材質放在上蓋或部分底座區塊,但全部都是碳纖維,我覺得有點過頭。因為這會改變桿頭重心和桿頭重量分布。更重要是桿頭的能量來源和大小。所以目前打過的朋友或網路上的消息都對距離這塊沒有太大的讚賞。
倒是Callaway新的Epic木桿底座部位有一大部分還是鈦合金材質,重量上會比較容易去控制,同時也有不同的配置塊或螺絲來進行重量調整。而朋友使用的經驗就感受到Epic的距離效果要比SIM2要優不少。這和桿頭材質的配置有很大關係。一下子把整個桿頭的材質轉換成碳纖維材質,對於桿頭效能的維持有很大影響。

There are many news and reviews for upcoming Taylormade SIM 2 drivers and I have checked with my peers and friends regarding the TM SIM2 drivers. Since it's shape and design are kind of style and attract my eye ball. Most of the comments of new SIM2 drivers are good spin rate but the distance is not as good as other competitors such as Titleist TSi and Callaway Epic. In terms of custom driver, it's not as easy to change the weight screws or slider weight like previous models. That's something I do not like.
Now the driver market has two kinds of materials designs. One is using carbon fiber and titanium two materials to gain the weight concentration of the certain spot of clubhead such as Callaway and TM. The other design is solo titanium such as PING and Titleist. There is no right or wrong on two kinds of head material design. You can pick the one with best fit your swing and body.
Regarding the TM SIM2 driver head design is like puzzles, it's comprised of 4 pieces, face, crown, sole and back weight. The sole and crown are all using carbon fiber to save the weight and the face is titanium as the key component of the SIM2. The back weight has two kinds of selection, one is heavier weight 20g with titanium and the other is aluminum about 13g.
In general the sole is the weight CG (center of gravity) but the sole is carbon fiber with weighted 12g. Therefore, the SIM2 head CG is mainly located behind the face as the sole is not heavy to make the CG locate low and back. Of course, it's back spin is low as the CG is most forwarded design but the distance is not as good as back spin. I do believe SIM driver has the sole titanium to support the impact power then the energy can be pouring solidly.
The current SIM2 has no core body or main body to support the whole clubhead and during the impact, it's only face can generate the energy that is not enough for golfers to gain the distance. Looking at Callaway's new Epic driver, it's sole and face are titanium, sole has about 25% of spot with carbon fiber. It's good to generate the power during the impact. That's why golfers can get better distance from Epic and TSi.

不是說碳纖維不好,或是它的強度不如鋼鐵材質。碳纖維的強度其實已經提升很多,所以我認為碳纖維的強度不是問題,問題在於鋼鐵材質的重量和強度是碳纖維所無法取代和抗衡。所以材質密度和能量有很大的關係。對我來說,我欣賞SIM2的桿頭設計,曲線感非常流暢是鈦合金桿頭所沒有。也是碳纖維材質的優勢。
但回歸到效能面,我還是會考慮SIM或Mavirik這類的50/50、或60/40的鈦合金/碳纖維比例的桿頭設計。因為利用碳纖維的輕量化來把桿頭重量集中在鈦合金的主體上是很好的架構。但如果把主架構或桿頭的龍骨給拿掉,這桿頭不是只剩桿面而已嗎?擊球的重力撞擊下,反作用力到桿面後面就完全沒有了。
因為擊球重力傳到桿面後面就被碳纖維的材質給吸收掉,無法有效把力量反彈回去。能量的效果就有折扣。這點是我比較在意。因為SIM2的桿頭底座也是碳纖維。也沒有什麼加重塊在底座部位,無法利用相對重量來把撞擊力反彈回去。
而SIM2也把桿頭設計不同的顏色和客製的選項。比如桿面和桿頭前緣部位可以有白色和黑色可以選擇。原廠銷售是以白色為主。黑色要另外下單訂購。桿底也可以有不同配色可以選,桿頭後面的重量匣也是有不同顏色和重量可以另外去訂購。整個拼拼樂的桿頭模式,創意十足但高球感就有點掉漆。
簡單說就是一款拼拼樂的桿頭。著重在視覺效果,如果喜歡視覺系的球友們,這是絕對可以滿足你的色彩感。但對於效能和距離上也不會差,但要和其他對手比就會有點吃力。它有三款可以選擇,SIM2、SIM2 MAX、SIM2 MAX D(draw),如果你要建立個人化的MYIM2,從2月19日開始,driver價格630美元起。要比沒有客製的貴100美元。
It's not saying that carbon fiber is not as strong as titanium, nowadays carbon fiber has been as strong as steel, but the key is the weight and stiffness of the material that is unable to replace by carbon fiber. Honestly I like SIM2's design and shape, that's something unable to made through casting mold with stainless or titanium. Of course, it's the advantage of carbon fiber.
In terms of the performance , I would pick the heads like SIM and Mavrik with titanium/carbon for 50/50 or 60/40 component ratio. Since using carbon fiber's light weight to focus the weight on the titanium main body, it will be good for impact to react the striking. But SIM2 is only face with titanium without the main body to support the impact.
Most of the driver design has the sole weighting to feedback the impact or make the CG low and back. Since SIM2 sole is carbon fiber without weighting up to locate the CG. That's the weakness for feedback the impact power. Looking at the Callaway new Epic driver, the sole is mainly titanium to locate the weights, there is only 20~30% of carbon fiber material on the sole. That is good design to maintain the weight and power.
However, SIM2 has many options for customization such as the back weight set, there are many colors and weights for customer to set the right swing weight with Taylormade custom department. Of course the sole and crown carbon fiber can be changed the colors of marks. I do think its the advantage of SIM2 for end users to do your own SIM2 driver.
The custom SIM2 driver is opened for customers on Feb 19, 2021, the price is $630 that is higher than standard SIM2 retail price. It's extra fun for golfers to play their own SIM2 driver setup, but in terms of the performance, SIM2 may not be the right solution for average golfers.
