Van Cortland golf course!

這次選在Bronx的球場，和上次打的Split Rock球場附近。開車從皇后區出發大概30分鐘，也算近。因為去看一下PXG的門店，所以逛好了就直接去打球。今天也要測試剛到手的Lab Mezz1推桿，現在已經是春天，今天天氣很不錯，溫度在17～18度。週二打球一般不會很多人打，所以我今天是自己推車，要好好享受一下大自然的空氣和風景。

Van Cortland是一個大的公園，球場也在裡面，這裡有很多的人來散步、健行、騎車、釣魚。我的開球時間是12點，但因為沒有人，所以讓我提早打，差不多11:45就下去，前面沒有人，後面也沒有人，所以我很愜意的開球。今天打黑tee，距離6000碼。其實不長，所以基本就不考慮打白tee。這個球場的設計是前9比較平坦和容易，你都可以從tee台看到果嶺。

球道的設計比較直也容易，地形也沒有很大的起伏，但果嶺的設計比較大，重要在第二桿的進攻和落點，果嶺旁邊就一個沙坑。還有就是球道比較窄，如果稍微偏一下，就會進樹林。這是前9的特色。後9就比較有挑戰了，地形的起伏很大，果嶺比較小，狗腿洞也不少，很多洞的tee台完全看不到果嶺位置，對於我這種第一次打的人就很茫然。後9讓我走的超累，會吐！有點像台灣北部的球場。

山地球場的地形起伏，很多洞開球台和球道有超過5層樓的高度落差，也有一洞球道往果嶺也有4層樓高的打。實在有挑戰，還好這些狀況以前都遇過。現在也不會腦子發熱，都是lay up的打上去。所以今天打起來就很順，反而還一路撿了一些球。今天只有掉2個球，都是找不到球，經驗上已經到一個火候，只是要把比較不好的桿子再提升和熟練。

我完全沒有進沙坑，但沙坑不多，都是在果嶺邊，不會有2個或以上，就是點綴而已，不是要難倒你。但後9的果嶺就真的有難，地形和斜坡也不少。後4洞有打孔鋪沙，所以不好推。今天推Mezz1真的穩，雖然沒有B2那樣如魚得水，但也是我可以接受。有2洞一推，剩下都是2推。非常的穩定，基本上有幾洞可以一推但都是洞邊滑過。意思到了！

Since last time I played Split Rock golf course, I would like to play another golf course in Bronx so I pick The public course Van Cortland. Today is Tuesday, there are not many people to play and I can enjoy a good golfing date with my push cart. Luckily the weather is great with 70 degree. I went to PXG store then come straight to the golf course.

It's not taking too long on driving from Flushing, Queens, I like to pick the golf courses without 1 hour driving and that is good for me to save the time. My tee time is 12pm and I comes around 11:30am, The staff lets me play 11:45 instead of waiting. I play black tee with total 6000 yards, it's not long course but I can still enjoy all of my golf clubs today.

The first 9 holes are not tough for average golfers to play, the fairway is straight and you are able to see the green from the tee box. But the fairway is not wide, it's testing your tee shot accuracy. If you have slice or hook, it will go straight to the trees for sure. The green design is ok, there is no slope and you can easy to make the putt or finishing with 2 putts.

However, the challenge is in back 9. There are many dog legs and you are unable to see the green. Moreover, the fairways are up and down hills, it will drive you crazy if your ball is not landed on the fairway. The fairway high is about 5 floors or higher, and there is one hole that the green is about 5 floor high to the fairway.

Of course, I have plenty experience and lay up to the green without damage. In short, the back 9 is to test your ability, strategy and experiencing. I lost 2 balls for this round since I could not find the balls on the fairway and tees, but I also pick up tons of golf balls from the rough. You are able to know the difficulty of the golf course.

2推的狀況都是第二推在一步的距離，可以輕鬆拿下。對Mezz的穩定性我是沒話說，在中長距離的推擊，比較有擠壓球的手感，回饋很爽和紮實，就如同打日本鍛造軟鐵鐵桿一樣。應該是桿面的紋路，近距離的推擊就比較空。這是和B2推起來的差異，B2的桿面是沒有紋路。但比其他品牌的推桿來說，手感回饋都要舒服，而路徑也是很穩。你的桿面都可以方正去推擊，很少狀況手會補償做轉動來控制桿面。

今天打鐵桿的機會不大，都是球道木或wedge。鐵桿今天比較穩定都可以打上果嶺和落在果嶺邊，球道木也是正常發揮打前九40，後九44. 前9木桿用Callaway Rogue ST，非常穩定，都是把球放在球道。這隻還是我最穩定的桿子，後9用TSR2雖然比較遠，但穩定性還是只有6成左右。需要在調整一下桿頭的重量。

雖然是個公共球場，但打起來很有趣，有變化，非常適合一般球友來體驗對球道起伏、平坦球道、樹林分布球道2旁、果嶺小和大。應該說它有不同球場風格的體驗，也有簡單好上手的球洞，當你打幾洞後，卻又風雲變色。我打紐約市的公共球場，這個算最有特色。公共球場不代表簡單輕鬆，不少球場都有其明顯特色和風格。

這也是我在打過split Rock球場後，會再想到Bronx的球場挑戰。我個人比較喜歡美國東北部的球場，高大的樹林，進去後基本就需要多一桿，視覺非常享受和有壓力。雖然球場的水池少，沙坑不多，但要打好也是要有點功夫。你的球道木和長桿能力要好，開球如果遠，第二桿也不會簡單，因為果嶺周圍都有樹林和障礙，稍微一失手就肯定會受傷。

美國很大也是高爾夫天堂，各地的球場都有特色，但我很少會看到有把球友給難倒的設計。但在中國或台灣的一些球場，那種難帶變態會讓你哭到不想打球。尤其一些球場本身的球道設計和連結就有問題，很容易會被球打到。這邊我打了快4年了，很少看到或聽到看球或球來到自己的球道上。但在台灣和中國的球場會不時發生。今天也打了4小時，收工回家，雖然很累但很爽。今天晚上也會很好睡！

I don't get in the bunker today but the bunker is not difficult to get out. I would say this golf course is good for average golfers to test your ability for the short game and tee shot. The second is critical to land the right spot on the green. Sometimes when you miss the fairway for the tee shot, you will have to get the good distance on the second shot and your hybrid and fairway woods are your saving tool.

I use Lab Mezz 1 putter and it's incredible consistent! I grab 2 1-putt and rest is 2 putts. Most of 2 putts are all within one step distance. I couldn't ask more and it's extremely accurate for the path due to the lie angle balance technology from the putter. The impact feel is like butter for mid and long distance. The short putt is a little hollow, I think it's the groove of the face design.

Comparing with Lab B2 putter, it's all soft feedback since the face has no grooving design. It's good for average golfers to leverage Lie angle balance through Lab putter, you will not spend too much power to control the putter face and head movement. The head is square to contact the ball. That's why my putting is able to be consistent.

I like this course with all kinds of challenges. The golfers can enjoy the various styles and challenges from first 9 and back 9. You will need to perform good tee shots, fairway wood and short game. There are a number of trees on the fairway and green. The accuracy is key to keep your score low, if your ball goes to trees, it will give you the damage for sure.

There are many well designed public golf courses, you can always have fun from it. I have played various golf courses in Asia, some of them are hard to conquer with frustrations. The reasonable golf course needs to deliver the fun, challenges and great view. If the design and challenge are trying to knock you down, it would not be a good course to play, period!
