Wedge的桿身選擇！

Wedge和推桿都是要打準的兩個兄弟，大家對wedge的重視也比較高。至少換wedge的頻率和推桿來比，wedge是肯定勝出。因為wedge的範圍從120～10碼都是大家會使用的桿子。只是角度差別而已。而我今天不去討論桿頭這塊，而是著眼在桿身的選擇上。

wedge桿身對多數球友來說，不太懂要如何選擇。其實不管桿身的重量，材質或硬度，都和你使用需求有強烈關係。不能像選鐵桿或木桿那種邏輯。因為使用的狀況和任務是有不同。所以wedge桿身要如何去選擇？要先問你自己，你拿wedge來打什麼距離？

wedge從48～60度都有。所以不同球友對使用的角度會有不同角度的桿子來打。而最簡單的問題就在，你的wedge是全揮桿，還是沒有全揮桿？這才是關鍵！多數人或技師不會重視這個因素，但如果你全揮桿就會有力量和距離。而這樣的使用方式就是和其他球桿差不多。所以桿身選擇和規格設定就會和鐵桿類似。

沒有全揮桿代表你是控制自己的力量在一個範圍內，所以桿子要以控制為主不是以距離和穩定性為訴求。因為全揮就需要注意桿身本身對於力量的承載力和抗側旋的穩定性。而沒有全揮桿不管你3/4，1/2或1/4都一樣。需要讓身體可以更容易去掌握好桿子才能帶動球桿去得到最好的擊球結果。

聽到這裡，你應該懂了吧！如果你52度是全揮桿，那桿身選擇可以和你的鐵桿一樣，因為這樣銜接下來，桿子的規格和重量感就不會落差太多，所以桿身規格可以和其他鐵桿一樣。但如果你另外的wedge多半不是全揮桿的話，就要著眼在讓你好使用和控制球桿為主。

Wedge and putter are the two focusing on the accuracy and control. Almost every golfer are serious on the wedge and willing to buy and change wedges all the time. Since wedge's coverage is from 10 to 120 yards and you can have various loft to target. However, I would like to discuss shaft instead of wedge head for today's article.

For most of golfers, they do not know how to pick the right wedge shaft for their needs. In terms of wedge shaft selection, you can not just use iron or wood idea to choose the shaft.It will not let you get good result in short game. The key is to ask yourself what kinds of situation and requirements you will need for the wedge? And what's the common distances for your wedges to play?

There are various wedge lofts you can pick from 48 to 60 degree. You can have different lofts to target various distances. However, you must understand you swing full or half in wedge play? That's the whole thing you need to know. It's not many people or clubfitters/clubmakers cared about this part but with my experience and knowledge, it's critical factor for wedge selection in shaft.

If you play your wedge in full swing, your wedge shaft needs to be like your other irons specification and profile. Since full swing will deliver the power and speed to the club, the shaft must be able to load your power and reduce the side spin issue to the bottom.

If you do not swing in full, no matter it's 3/4, half or 1/4 upswing, your wedge needs to focus on controlling instead of performance and distance. You see the differences? Control and performance are different for the wedge specification and shaft selection. If you can figure these differentiations, when you select your wedge shaft, you know what weight, flex and length you should choose.

當你沒有全揮桿時，有些時候會做不同打法。如果這樣的打法配置桿身和鐵桿類似或一樣，多半會影響到使用。另一個重要原因就是，非全揮桿你的力量不會最大，而這時候你要利用更多的球桿優勢去得到最好的結果。比如要更多的倒旋量、更高的飛行高度和更好咬球。而要做到這些結果，桿身必須是以操控為主要訴求！

所以我才會認為wedge桿身本來就沒有必要和鐵桿一樣。因為使用需求會不同。就我自己的例子，我只有一支wedge就是52度。都不是全揮桿，多半短切，1/2的上桿。距離範圍在70碼內去調整上桿幅度。全揮桿會用P。所以我wedge的桿身就要讓擊球可以得到好的倒旋和控制。

如果你52度或54度都在是全揮桿狀況，我建議鐵桿就和wedge的全揮桿一起訂製就好。桿身也都選一樣。這樣可以得到更一致的手感和使用操控。沒有全揮桿的wedge才是真正的wedge，是用來控制桿子去做最好的擊球，這樣的桿身就可以和你使用的鐵桿桿身不同。

這也是wedge桿身會有一些獨特的設計，比如彈道會比較高，倒旋更多，彈性更好等。有些wedge桿身也會設計比較重，也是因為可以利用桿身的強度去得到更好的能量、倒旋和彈道。而多數球友對比較重的wedge桿身都不考慮，但如果你是半揮桿和短切，這樣的桿身會特好用，更容易帶桿頭來得到好的結果。尤其在長草狀況，這樣的桿身更容易脫困。

wedge桿身也五花八門，所以選擇需要有經驗和瞭解上面的專業知識。不是看那個比較順眼和因為其他朋友也用你也買來打。錯！先看看你是否為全揮桿，再思考桿身要選什麼材質，重量和特性？要去利用桿身特性才能讓你的短切效果更到位，同時可以配合你的打法去發揮最好的操控。

If you do not have full swing, your power is not the maximum and the wedge shaft can be different with your iron shafts. With that demand and requirement, your wedge shaft needs to be good on "controlling". How can the shaft deliver better spin rate and bite on the green ability? That's the wedge shaft needs to perform.

My personal usage on wedge, there is only one 52 wedge in my bag and I use it with half swing to target the distance within 50 yards range. Therefore, my wedge shaft is different with my iron shaft as I need the shaft to be better to fit my half swing and I can control the club better and easier. Furthermore, the club can deliver better spin rate to stop on the green after landed.

As a result, if your 52 and 54 wedges are in full swing most of times, you can use the same shaft as your iron shaft with length differentiation. This way you can maintain the same feel, weight and performance.

To me the true wedge shaft is not in full swing condition and you are using more technique and skills to control the club and ball. It's the most of fun on wedge play. Even though you are not full swing but you can still enjoy playing various shots, and trajectories.

Technically speaking, heavier wedge shaft is better to deliver better energy and spins. Most golfers are not aware of that. They prefer and intend to pick the wedge shaft with similar or the same as their iron shaft. But if you are not in full swing with your wedge shots, it's better to use this concept to select the wedge shaft.

Because when you are half swing in wedge, you need the shaft tip to create and generate more kicks to contact the ball and with the stronger kick of shaft tip section, it will generate more spin rates to drop and stop on the green. When your ball is in the rough, with such shaft profile, it will help you get out of the rough easily.

There are tons of wedge shafts in the market. It's not based on your preference, colors and brands by selecting your right wedge shaft. You must think what swing profile is your wedge play? Then decide what shaft is good to fit your demand and missions. To leverage shaft advantages and gain the best result of your short game is key on wedge shaft. If you can control the wedge easily and better, you will definitely get what you are expecting!
