The greens are big and they really test your green reading and where you leave the ball. I’m focusing more now on pin position and slope to pick my landing spots. Most holes I was two-putting. A few greens have big tier drops — pretty tricky. But I managed to leave myself good putts. Today I even made two long putts — one to save par and one birdie on 18. My putting feel is finally coming around!

The grass on the greens is super thick, so the ball was jumping a bit on putts. They really need to work on the greens. Speed was about 8-9, which was fine.

One issue: a lot of the trees on the sides of the fairways need trimming. On several approach shots, branches were blocking the line to the green. Happened twice today. That’s something the course should fix. Overall, the course is medium difficulty. Not much elevation, but lots of doglegs, so you can’t always see the green from the tee. I always check the hole layout before teeing off. My playing partner was also playing it for the first time and kept saying “blind leads to blind.”

Playing with someone who can actually play was so smooth and enjoyable. I don’t even mind the slow pace that much anymore — I’m used to it.

When you play with good golfers, everyone has their own rhythm and strategy. We weren’t watching each other’s routines or anything. You just glance and know what the other guy is doing, then stay in your own process. He did ask me a bunch of questions about shot shaping because he liked how consistent and controlled my iron flights were. I told him I just adjust my setup to change trajectory and distance.

Today I carried P, 7, 6, and 4 iron. The 7i and 6i were my workhorses — covered 130 to 175 yards perfectly. The 4 iron and 5-wood didn’t even come out. The driver was absolutely bombing today, so the fairway wood stayed in the bag. GT2 with the NX Gold is my favorite driver right now. That shaft is so good.

I even felt the shaft loading on one drive. Most of my strikes were right around the sweet spot, or half a ball toward the toe when I was deliberately hitting draws. Distance was ridiculous.

The GT2/NX Gold is at 44.75” — half an inch longer than my other GT2/Ventus TR Black because the NX Gold is lighter. I needed the extra length to keep the same swing feel. It works way better for me. Length under 45” is my comfort zone.

The low spin and amazing roll on the NX Gold is my favorite part. GT2/NX Gold passed the test. Next I’ll probably take the Qi4D out for 18 holes, maybe with the new Ventus Velocore + Blue. I’m currently using the TR Blue, so I can compare old vs new. I’m going to re-shaft everything one by one and see what happens. That’s the fun part — tinkering with gear and seeing how it changes your game. So many cool clubs this year. Golf is just more fun right now.
