找適合的球具訂製技師準則/Looking for the right clubfitter!~上集

A good fitter starts by analyzing the golfer’s physical condition, swing mechanics, and needs. From there, they select equipment combinations for testing. Each club head, shaft, and grip has its own characteristics. The key is finding features that address the golfer’s issues. When I conduct tests, I usually offer three different combinations. This approach allows golfers to clearly compare and understand the differences. It’s not about pushing the most expensive or newest products. This process also reflects the fitter’s depth of knowledge—if they haven’t spent time using and understanding the equipment, they won’t be able to make the right recommendations.

During discussions and analysis, you can gauge the fitter’s expertise. Why does a specific combination produce a particular result? Their answers should be based on solid reasoning, not guesswork. Club fitting results are rooted in biomechanics, physics, and material science—not overly complicated theories, but still requiring basic knowledge to explain the why and how behind each adjustment.

Another thing to consider is the actual testing process. Don’t rely on just one or two trials to make a conclusion. Ideally, evaluate the results over a period of time—say, a few weeks to a month. Everyone has good and bad days, and factors like physical readiness or focus can affect your results. Testing under different conditions, on various courses, and over time gives a more complete picture. And if a golfer plays frequently, this testing period can be shorter. It’s also better to test on the course rather than relying solely on results from a driving range or indoor simulator.

When I customize clubs, I always leave some room for adjustments. For new customers, I allow for 2–3 follow-up sessions to fine-tune their clubs based on their feedback. For long-term clients, the process is much simpler because I already understand their preferences and can usually deliver exactly what they want in one go.

Lastly, golfers, don’t get too hung up on data. Indoor simulators are great for reference, but they’re not the whole story. Data should support your decisions, not dictate them. Without seeing the actual ball flight outdoors, those numbers can lack real meaning. That’s why I always prefer outdoor testing at driving ranges—you get to see the ball flight, speed, and impact in real-time, which no simulator can replicate.

If you have any questions about club fitting or equipment, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to discuss and share insights.
