2025 New driver advantages!

2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year, with tons of new golf clubs hitting the market. I picked up the Callaway Elyte as my go-to driver for the year. Of course, I’m also planning to get another driver for comparison, and my top choice is the Titleist GT.

I’ve already done some research on the GT. Over the past five years, most drivers have adopted AI-designed clubfaces, meaning the back of the clubface has an uneven thickness. This design helps improve forgiveness and overall performance.

Titleist GT follows the same concept, just like Callaway. These brands study how most golfers make contact with the ball and optimize the high-impact areas on the clubface to increase the coefficient of restitution (COR). This leads to better ball speed and greater forgiveness. In the past, clubfaces had uniform thickness, meaning only shots that hit the sweet spot performed well. But now, even if you strike closer to the heel or low on the face, the club is designed to retain more energy and reduce performance loss.

Concentrated Weight Distribution in the Clubhead
Another key factor is weight distribution in the driver head. The goal is to concentrate weight towards the bottom and back of the head to improve performance.

Why does this help? A driver head weighs around 190g–205g, and by strategically placing the weight in key areas, it becomes easier to control and maneuver. A more stable and efficient clubhead movement increases swing speed and leads to better ball striking.

To achieve this, brands are reducing weight from the top of the clubhead by using composite materials like carbon fiber. This keeps the structural integrity intact while shifting weight to improve performance. TaylorMade and Callaway were pioneers in integrating carbon fiber crowns, and now even the traditionally conservative Titleist has joined the movement.

For 2025, the GT driver features a carbon fiber crown, which shifts more weight to the sole, enhancing stability and launch conditions. At first glance, the GT looks similar to the TSR series or other classic Titleist drivers, but underneath, it’s a different beast. By integrating composite materials, Titleist has taken a big step forward in technology, and that’s reflected in its performance gains. Many of their tour players have already seen distance improvements with the GT.

When I tested it in a golf shop, I could really feel the difference—it actually outperformed my TSR2. That’s exactly why I’m so interested in the GT.

I’ve been using Callaway drivers for over 20 years, and their performance and consistency have been rock solid. Callaway and TaylorMade are the two most aggressive brands when it comes to technology and material innovation. Titleist and Ping, on the other hand, are more conservative—Titleist typically waits until Callaway and TaylorMade prove a technology works before adopting it.

With the GT driver, it’s clear that Titleist has finally embraced modern materials and advanced design, and I’m excited to see how it stacks up against Callaway!
